Italy - Musical Wines
We are off to Italy again in a few weeks and I am going to be in the Arezzo area for a few days at end of trip. I will be on a mission while in Tuscany.... I am to find a town called Montalcino where there is a vineyard owned by a man who has made a startling discovery and now being studied scientifically. His grapes were not growing as robustly as they should have been for years so he tried an experiment. He decided to pipe classical music to half of his vineyard and the grapes responded by growing large r, juicier and redder than those not listening to music... It deserved a closer look Montalcino is also home to the famous Banfi wines .Banfi wines are considered by the Italian to be the best in Italy with only a small production of certain kinds distributed to America. So Montalcino is about 1 1/2 hours from Arezzo but a lovely trip especially at harvest time .Be sure to go to the musical vineyard called Paradiso di Frassini on the way to Montalcino from Buonconvento. According to an acquaintance who lives there the grapes prefer violins. The owner is Giancarlo Cignozzi and he makes very interesting wines, including one called " DO" ( musical--do, a doe ,a female deer...) containing 12 varietals. An interesting note is that this acquaintance ,Laura, states that when the boss is not there, the workers replace Vivaldi with Vasco Rossi and it does not seem to do the wines any harm It has become a very notable place so it is now necessary to request and appointment to visit. I will gladly give anyone the necessary phone and fax numbers upon request.

Simplicity has been our theme this summer. I went back to work in June and realized that I wasn’t superwoman. Oh, I knew it way before then, but adding big deadlines to my juggling pile made me think less about what I wanted to do and more about what I could realistically do, and the first thing on my list was to make our meals easier and faster to prepare. We’re still cooking from scratch; no take out, no pizza delivery guy ringing our doorbell, we’re just making our weekday meals less comp

This week’s Wine and Music Pairing includes a 2006 Pinot Noir from Kent Rasmussen’s Esoterica label and a track called ‘Vine to Vine’ from Matthew Dear’s most recent full length album titled “Asa Breed“. It’s a rather enticing match which exemplifies the concept of pairing “dark and mysterious” music with red wine. “The synergism of nature and technology - the old and the new - makes for a very centered and peaceful life.” The above quote is from wine maker Kent Rasmussen, but it could very w

Grilled Tofu

I buy tofu on a regular basis, but end up using it in fried rice or some kind of Chinese style dish (or my version of some Chinese dish). But this time I wanted to make something different and searched around quite a bit (since all I have in my fridge is this tofu) before I found this recipe on Vegetarian Times. Recipe is for baked tofu, but I used my stove top grill pan instead. I was quite impressed with my grilling abilities, but it can be done better the next time. Recipe adapted from Vege

TART SANGRIA Traditional sangrias are luscious, bold blends of fruits, wine and spirits, but this wonderfully refreshing summer drink from Spain and Portugal leaves plenty of room for improvisation.
How badly does beer sabotage weight loss
Thu, 14 Aug 2008 10:06:39 PDT
Basically beer is high in calories....and does other strange things to your health that have never really been fully documented. Why not switch to red wine (lots of anti-oxidants) or white wine. Or any other low calorie alchohol (alcopops have too much sugar).

Does it matter what the label on your wine bottle says? Yes, quite a lot, according to the U.S. Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) which has halted the import of certain Italian and French wines.
